Rich Crompton, P.E.
Director, Department of Public Works, County of San Diego
Richard Crompton currently serves as Director of the County of San Diego Department of Public Works (DPW). Before appointment to this position, he served as the department's Assistant Director.
Mr. Crompton oversees all aspects of DPW's four divisions: Transportation, Engineering Services, Land Development, and Management Services.
DPW is responsible for the infrastructure and transportation needs of the County. This includes design, construction, and maintenance of nearly 2,000 miles of roads and 200 bridges, flood control systems, wastewater processing, operation of eight airports and more.
Before coming to the County, Mr. Crompton served as a Civil Engineer Corps Officer in the U.S. Navy in a variety of public works and construction management assignments in San Diego; Bahrain; Havelock, North Carolina; Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; Pensacola, Florida; Port Hueneme, California; and Naval Station Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico.
Mr. Crompton holds a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from North Carolina State University, and a Master of Engineering degree from the University of Florida. He is a Registered Civil Engineer in California.
