Big Scissors, Big Celebration: Join the NSDBC for STEP’s big Ribbon Cutting! 
 

San Diego, CA — The North San Diego Business Chamber is proud to celebrate Support the Enlisted Project (STEP) as they open the doors to their new national headquarters on Thursday, December 4, 2025, from 10:00a.m.–11:00 a.m. This ribbon cutting marks a major milestone for the San Diego–based nonprofit, which has spent 13 years helping young military and veteran families build lasting financial stability. 

This story begins more than a decade ago with a simple mission: help young military families pull themselves out of financial crisis and build lasting stability. Thirteen years later, that mission hasn’t just grown - it’s taken flight. 

STEP has now expanded into two additional states, built strong partnerships with mental health organizations, and purchased their first national headquarters in San Diego’s Carol Canyon Business Park. The new space will house their growing team and secure long-term stability as they continue pushing their mission forward. 

“For the past 13 years, we’ve had the privilege of helping more than 9,500 military families regain financial independence,” says CEO and co-founder Tony Teravainen. “Stories of families transforming their lives through our counseling program are what keep us going - and motivate us to reach even more households across the country.” 

Today, STEP serves families across California, Washington, Oregon, and now Hawaii - increasing its reach to more than 256,000 military households. And they’re not slowing down. Their 10-year plan includes expanding into seven additional western states, establishing a physical presence in Colorado and Texas, and continuing coast-to-coast partnerships with mental health organizations like Stop Soldier Suicide and PsychArmor.
